Conquering Wylder's Remembrance: My Epic Quest for the Slate Whetstone in Elden Ring Nightreign
Discover the thrilling quest for the Slate Whetstone in Elden Ring Nightreign, filled with challenging battles and epic loot in Limveld's treacherous landscapes.
I've spent countless sleepless nights traversing the twisted landscapes of Limveld, and let me tell you, the hunt for the Slate Whetstone in Elden Ring Nightreign has been an absolute roller coaster of emotions! After running what felt like a MILLION expeditions with Wylder (okay, maybe not a million, but my thumbs are definitely feeling the burn), I finally collected enough Memory Fragments to unlock the third chapter of his Remembrance quest. And boy, was it worth it!
The Iron Menial's Request
Picture this: I'm standing in the Roundtable Hold, my armor still dripping with the ichor of fallen enemies, when I spot the Iron Menial lurking outside the Waiting Room like some creepy stalker. He fixes those hollow eyes on me and has the audacity to ask me to retrieve some fancy rock called a 'Whetstone' from Limveld. Like I don't already have enough on my plate battling cosmic horrors!
But who am I kidding? I'm a sucker for rare loot, and this quest promised something special. The Iron Menial's words still echo in my mind: "The clash with Night has spanned eons. And yet now, precious little time remains." Cryptic much?
Diving Into Danger
So off I went, launching an Expedition into Limveld. Could I have chosen a simple, low-risk expedition? ABSOLUTELY. Did I? OF COURSE NOT! I went for the most challenging route because apparently, I enjoy pain.
Once I dropped into that nightmare realm, I immediately checked my map. Among the usual icons of certain death and probable dismemberment, I spotted a Tunnel marked with a red banner. Have you ever seen a red banner in a video game that DIDN'T spell trouble? Yeah, me neither, but in I went anyway!
The tunnel had two entrances, and I chose the one that looked slightly less like a mouth ready to devour me whole. Inside, the layout was a maze of twisting passages and echoing chambers. Is it just me, or do game designers get some sick pleasure from making us wander through identical-looking corridors?
The Crystal Menace
Just when I thought I'd found the prize – a mysteriously glowing wall that practically screamed "LOOT HERE" – a freaking Crystalian decided to crash the party!
This crystalline nightmare appeared out of nowhere, its body reflecting the dim light of the cavern in a thousand deadly facets. Have you ever tried fighting something that's basically a walking diamond? Let me tell you, my trusty greatsword might as well have been a wet noodle for all the damage it did initially!
After an embarrassing number of deaths (which we shall NOT be quantifying, thank you very much), I finally figured out the rhythm of its attacks. SMASH, dodge, SMASH, dodge, and then – when it finally staggered – I unleashed a fury that would make even the Elden Beast tremble! The Crystalian shattered into a thousand glittering shards, and I was finally free to claim my prize.
The Return Journey
With the Whetstone clutched in my sweaty hands, I proceeded through the rest of the Expedition. And by "proceeded," I mean I ran like a madman toward the exit, desperately hoping I wouldn't lose this precious item to some random ambush.
Back at the Roundtable Hold, the Iron Menial seemed almost impressed – as impressed as a stoic, possibly soulless entity can appear. He rewarded me with three items:
-
Mended Earring (the real prize!)
-
Delicate Burning Scene x2 (pretty, but I was here for POWER)
But here's the kicker – if you haven't completed the first Expedition and unlocked Duchess yet, you're out of luck for the Earring! Thankfully, I had already done that particular bit of heroism, so I snatched that Earring with glee.
The Final Steps
Now, this is where things get weird. I took the Earring to the back of the Waiting Room and held it up like some bizarre offering. And then – I kid you not – Wylder performed a GESTURE. Not a word, not a thank you, just a silent gesture that somehow conveyed both appreciation and the weight of eons. These Nightfarers really need to work on their communication skills!
Finally, I tracked down the Duchess (who always seems to be wandering around when you don't need her and nowhere to be found when you do). I handed over the Mended Earring, and BOOM – Chapter 3 of Wylder's Remembrance complete!
The Ultimate Reward
And what did I get for all this trouble? The Slate Whetstone Relic, which has transformed my Wylder gameplay:
-
Follow-up attacks now possible when using Character Skill (greatsword only)
-
Physical Attack Up
Is it worth the hours of frustration, the multiple deaths, the cursing at my screen that had my neighbors calling to check if I was okay? ABSOLUTELY! The follow-up attacks with Wylder's greatsword are game-changing, turning what was already a powerful character into an absolute beast on the battlefield.
What's Next for 2025?
