Just when I thought I'd mastered every challenge in the Lands Between, here comes news that's got me more excited than finding a hidden grace point! Word on the street is that our beloved Elden Ring might be making its way to the big screen. That's right, fellow Tarnished – the game that had us dying countless times could soon have us buying popcorn instead of golden runes!

George R.R. Martin, the mastermind who helped craft the rich backstory of our favorite torture simulator, dropped this bombshell at IGN Fan Fest 2025. Early talks are happening, folks! Can you imagine seeing Malenia in IMAX? I still have nightmares about her, and now I might get to experience those nightmares in surround sound!

The Martin Conundrum

Of course, Martin himself won't be heavily involved. Why, you ask? Because the man is STILL writing 'The Winds of Winter'! Thirteen years and counting, people. At this point, I've defeated Radahn more times than Martin has written chapters. But can we really blame him? Between creating Westeros and the Lands Between, the guy's imagination must be more vast than Liurnia of the Lakes.

I'm sitting here wondering: would Martin's absence from the project be a blessing or a curse? On one hand, his worldbuilding is unmatched. On the other hand, we might actually see this movie before we're all as ancient as the Erdtree if he's not directly involved.

The Adaptation Challenge

Let's be real for a second – how the heck would an Elden Ring movie even work? The game is notorious for its obscure storytelling and minimal dialogue. Would we get a three-hour film where the protagonist just rolls around avoiding attacks and never speaks?

My personal theory is that they'll go the prequel route. Show us the Shattering in all its glory! Let's see Radahn before he went mad, Ranni before her... well, life changes, and maybe even Marika and Radagon doing their thing (still confused about that relationship, not gonna lie).

Budget Nightmares and Alternative Dreams

Have you seen the scale of Elden Ring's world? The budget for this movie would make even the richest Leyndell noble sweat. We're talking about:

  • Massive castles that defy physics

  • Creatures that would make CGI artists quit on the spot

  • A sky that literally has another world in it

  • Whatever the heck is going on in Caelid (seriously, what IS that place?)

Here's a quick comparison of what I think various FromSoftware games would cost to adapt:

Game Budget Estimate Nightmare Factor Probability of Success
Elden Ring 💰💰💰💰💰 😱😱😱😱😱 50%
Bloodborne 💰💰💰 😱😱😱 75%
Dark Souls 💰💰💰💰 😱😱😱😱 60%
Sekiro 💰💰 😱😱 80%

Speaking of Bloodborne, wouldn't that make a better first adaptation? The Victorian gothic setting is practically begging for a film treatment, and it wouldn't require creating entire fantasy realms from scratch. But here's the catch – Elden Ring has sold over 25 million copies as of 2026, making it the obvious choice for executives looking at bottom lines rather than artistic merit.

My Wishlist

If this movie does happen, here's what I'm personally hoping for:

  1. A cameo from Let Me Solo Her - The legend deserves recognition

  2. Realistic boss fights - I want to see the main character die at LEAST 20 times to Margit

  3. Pot Friend Alexander - If he's not in it, I'm not watching

  4. The message system somehow - Imagine "Try finger, but hole" appearing in a serious scene

  5. Torrent - With realistic double jumping physics, of course!

The Waiting Game

So here we are, at the beginning of what could be a long journey to see the Lands Between on the silver screen. Will it actually happen? Or will this project get abandoned faster than I abandon attempting no-hit runs?

Only time will tell, but one thing's for certain – I'll be first in line for tickets if it does happen, probably wearing my homemade Ranni cosplay that frightens small children.

Until then, I'll just keep trying to beat Malenia without throwing my controller through the TV. Anyone else still stuck on her in 2026? No? Just me? 🥲

Remember Tarnished, don't give up, skeleton! Whether in game or in theater, the Lands Between awaits us all!
