My Epic Showdown with Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw: A Pro Gamer's Tale
Discover thrilling strategies and team setups for defeating the deadly Everdark Sovereign in Elden Ring Nightreign, an intense new challenge for gamers.
Let me tell you about my latest gaming obsession that's been keeping me up at ungodly hours – the newly released Everdark Sovereign battles in Elden Ring Nightreign. When FromSoftware dropped update 1.01.3 last month, I nearly spat out my energy drink when I spotted that mysterious purple option lurking at the bottom of the expedition menu. As someone who's sunk an embarrassing 400+ hours into this game already, I knew I had to take on this challenge immediately.
The Beast That Haunts My Dreams
Adel, Baron of Night – or as I've affectionately nicknamed him, 'Chompy McThunderface' – was already a pain in my perfectly-dressed Nightfarer backside in his regular form. But this Everdark Sovereign variant? Pure, unadulterated nightmare fuel. This beast starts directly in phase two, covered in those beautiful yet deadly lightning effects that have killed me more times than I care to admit. And trust me, the regular version of this fight doesn't even begin to prepare you for the sovereign's enhanced aggression and mobility.
I still have PTSD from my first attempt. I waltzed in thinking, 'How much harder could it be?' The answer, my fellow Tarnished, was significantly harder. I was yeeted into oblivion within 30 seconds. My teammates sent me a barrage of disappointed emotes that cut deeper than any of Adel's attacks.
Dream Team Assembly Required
After several humiliating defeats (we won't discuss the exact number), I realized that team composition would be crucial. Through painful trial and error, I've found two winning combinations:
Team Lightning Rod:
-
Raider (tank extraordinaire)
-
Wylder (damage dealer with attitude)
-
Ironeye (ranged support that makes life bearable)
Team No Mercy:
-
Raider (still tanking like a boss)
-
Ironeye (because ranged attacks are your best friend)
-
Executor (for when you need something very dead, very quickly)
My personal favorite is the second team. There's something deeply satisfying about watching Executor's Ultimate Art tear through Adel's health bar while Raider keeps his attention. I've named this strategy 'Dance With The Devil' – Raider dances, we bring the devil.
Sovereign Showdown Strategies
Before you even think about facing this monstrosity, make sure you're at least level 13. I learned this lesson the hard way when I tried at level 11 and became intimately familiar with the 'You Died' screen in record time.
The key difference in this fight is that our friend Adel starts in phase two – lightning-charged and ready to party. And by party, I mean 'murder you repeatedly.'
Here's my battle plan that's worked after much cursing and controller-gripping:
-
Poison Is Your BFF – Hunt down those poison weapons in ruins marked with the poison symbol during your first two nights. Adel might not do his cute little vomit animation in this version, but trust me, the poison damage is still working its magic.
-
Lightning Management – When Adel is covered in lightning, keep your distance when possible. I've developed a sixth sense for when he's about to unleash his lightning attacks – there's a subtle change in the sound design that gives it away.
-
The Tornado of Doom – At around 50% health, Adel enters his second phase (technically the third phase if you count the normal fight). This is where things get spicy!
When Adel starts dashing around like he's had too much caffeine before crashing into the ground, RUN. A massive tornado will form, and standing in it is a one-way ticket to a loading screen. Instead, look for those glowing Spiritstream Jumps that appear around the arena. Use these to catapult yourself over the tornado wall and into the eye of the storm.
The first time I successfully pulled this off, I literally stood up and did a victory dance – only to immediately get smacked by Adel because I wasn't paying attention. Lesson learned: save the celebrations for after the fight.
The Sweet Taste of Victory
After what felt like a thousand attempts (it was probably closer to fifteen, but who's counting?), I finally brought down the Everdark Sovereign version of Gaping Jaw. The rush of endorphins was comparable to the time I beat Malenia in the original Elden Ring without taking damage. Okay, maybe not quite that good, but close!
The rewards were absolutely worth the blood, sweat, and tears (mostly tears). Along with the randomized Relics, which I immediately used to beef up my Raider for future runs, I received 25 Sovereign Sigils. These precious tokens can be exchanged at the Collector Signboard for new chalices, character skins, and more. I immediately spent mine on a new outfit for my Duchess – priorities, people!
Reflections of a Nightfarer
As I sit here, still riding the high of victory, I can't help but wonder what FromSoftware has in store for us next. The Everdark Sovereign variants represent a fascinating evolution in Elden Ring Nightreign's endgame content – they're not just harder versions of existing bosses, but reimagined encounters that require new strategies and approaches.
Will we see Everdark Sovereign variants for all the Nightlords? What about special rewards for defeating all of them? Could this be leading to some kind of ultimate challenge that combines elements from all the Sovereigns?
The beauty of Elden Ring Nightreign lies not just in mastering its challenges, but in the shared experience of struggling, adapting, and eventually triumphing alongside friends. Even when those friends spam disappointed emotes when you get one-shot by a lightning bolt.
So gather your team, sharpen your weapons, and prepare your excuses for when you inevitably die to Chompy McThunderface. The Everdark Sovereign awaits, and trust me – despite the frustration, the victory is worth every second of the struggle.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go prepare for my next expedition. I hear the Everdark Sovereign Darkdrift Knight is even more terrifying, and my masochistic gamer heart can't wait to find out how. 🎮⚔️💀
