As a veteran of countless FromSoftware titles, I've been completely consumed by Elden Ring Nightreign since its release earlier this year. While the base game offered incredible depth, the expansion's character-specific storylines have taken the experience to new heights. I've spent the past month diving deep into Raider's remembrance questline, and I'm excited to share my experience with this uniquely rewarding journey.

The Beginning of a Sailor's Tale

After defeating Tricephalos, I was finally able to access Raider's Chapter 2 storyline. The game transported me to that mysterious stone monument outside the Roundtable Hold. There's something hauntingly beautiful about that area - the way the light catches the ancient stone always gives me chills. The mannequin instructed me to interact with the monument, and after exhausting his dialogue (which took longer than expected), I found myself teleported to a colosseum.

The Onestrike Gladiator awaited me there - a formidable but manageable foe similar to the Grave Warden enemies. Being only level 5 at this point made the encounter tense, but I quickly discovered that Raider's Character Skill was the key. The timing window is tight, but interrupting the Gladiator's heavier attacks created perfect openings for devastating counters.

I found myself adopting a rhythm: dodge, wait for the heavy attack wind-up, use the Character Skill to interrupt, then unleash a barrage of attacks while he was vulnerable. Some of his attacks couldn't break my poise, but at such a low level, I couldn't afford to tank too many hits. After a few tense minutes, the Gladiator fell, and I claimed the Torn Braided Coil.

The mannequin's cryptic comments about the item's background left me intrigued. After another interaction with the monument, I was able to exit this first remembrance stage, but my mind was already racing with theories about Raider's mysterious past.

Facing the Beast Within

After gathering Memory Fragments from a particularly challenging expedition, Chapter 4 opened up. I returned to the monument, where the mannequin revealed more about Raider's past foe - someone destined to return for a final confrontation. The atmosphere was electric with anticipation.

This time, the colosseum pitted me against the Blinding Elder Lion - a beast I'd encountered during expeditions but never with Raider's specific moveset. At level 8, I had more health and damage, but this beast was no pushover.

The Blinding Elder Lion's speed was my biggest challenge. Raider's slower attacks meant I needed perfect timing, and several times I found myself taking massive damage - nearly half my health bar from a single combo! I quickly abandoned my aggressive approach from the first remembrance and focused on creating openings with the Character Skill.

What I love about this fight is how it forces you to adapt. Raider's high poise tempts you to trade blows, but that's a recipe for disaster. Instead, I learned to be patient, waiting for the perfect moment to interrupt the lion's rapid strikes. After dying three times (I'm not ashamed to admit), I finally found the right rhythm and brought the beast down.

The reward? Raider's Chalice - an excellent relic holder with two red slots and one free slot. This immediately became a permanent part of my loadout.

The Final Confrontation

Chapter 7 took an unexpected turn. The mannequin informed me that my rival had withdrawn, and the monument no longer responded to my touch. A new objective appeared on the southern beach of the Roundtable Hold - a brilliant way to break the established pattern and build anticipation.

When I reached the southern area, I was transported back to the colosseum for the final showdown. White Horn, Raider's seafaring rival, awaited me with axe and mace in hand.

This multi-phase boss fight pushed my skills to the limit. White Horn's first phase was manageable - his short range made him vulnerable to interruptions from Raider's colossal weapon. However, his Retaliate skill caught me off guard several times, punishing my overconfidence.

At 60% health, the fight transformed dramatically. White Horn became an Ulcerated Tree Spirit - a callback to one of Elden Ring's most notorious enemies. The arena erupted with pillars of fire, lightning attacks, and those infuriating lunging strikes.

My initial instinct was to keep my distance, but this proved ineffective. After several failed attempts, I discovered that staying close to his sides was the key - it limited his moveset and gave me consistent openings to attack. The fight demanded precise dodging and patience, but eventually, White Horn fell.

The grave marker near the mannequin provided closure to Raider's questline, rewarding me with the Black Claw Necklace and the Remembrance Outfit (which, in a fantastic aesthetic touch, removes the upper half of Raider's armor).

Reflections on Raider's Journey

Raider's remembrance questline stands apart from others in Elden Ring Nightreign. While most character stories take you through mini-expeditions, Raider's focuses on colosseum combat - a perfect reflection of his character's fighting spirit.

The rewards make the journey worthwhile:

Remembrance Reward Effect
Stage 1 Torn Braided Coil Damage taken during Character Skill improves attack power and stamina (+3 Strength)
Stage 2 Raider's Chalice Two red relic slots and one free slot
Stage 3 Black Claw Necklace Defeating enemies near Totem Stela restores HP and fills more of the Art gauge (+3 Poise)

The Black Claw Necklace has become essential for my expedition builds, especially when paired with Raider's aggressive playstyle. The HP restoration near Totem Stela has saved me countless times in 2025's new Abyssal Expeditions.

What fascinates me most about Raider's story is how it leaves certain questions unanswered. Who was White Horn before his transformation? What history did he and Raider share on the high seas? The game provides hints but never fully explains - a storytelling approach I've come to appreciate in FromSoftware's games.

As I continue exploring Elden Ring Nightreign's other character storylines, I find myself comparing them to Raider's journey. Was his tale truly exceptional, or has my affinity for his playstyle colored my perception? Perhaps the greatest achievement of these remembrance quests isn't just their mechanical rewards, but how they make us reflect on our own gaming preferences and the characters we're drawn to in these digital worlds.

What remembrance journey will you embark on first?
